Community Tasting Notes 8

August 25, 2019 - Menthol and something floral on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, blackberry, and notes of cinnamon, anise, and tar on the medium to long finish, with strong drying tannins and good acidity. This has just reached the point where the tannins don't overwhelm the fruit, and it should improve for some years. This was a bargain at $20. At the $40 price point I see later vintages going for it would be a good value. The Cellartracker drinking window is much too early and too short.

March 4, 2015 - Double decanted and allowed to stand for an hour. Menthol and rose petals on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, menthol, strawberry, roses, and a bit of tar. This is barely ready after decanting; it is beginning to show some interesting secondary notes, and I expect it will improve with time. I will wait a few years before opening another bottle. Very good value at $20.

March 24, 2013 - Nose is a bit tired with a flat, oxidized and nearly corked feel. On the palate this shows blueberry, leather components, and a well rounded amount of tannins. May be past its prime but still an okay bottle.

April 7, 2010 - This was a massively tannic wine...so much so that the raspberry fruits were overpowered. Maybe in an akward stage, hopefully it will continue to evolve and have more fruit show through later.

October 3, 2009 - Mature both in color and smell. Liquorice, tar, tobacco, carnations.Soft tannins with a well balanced acidity. An excellent wine with food for the price (16 euro)
