February 2, 2022 - The first bottle I had a year ago matched a lot of the reviews I’ve read that were a little disappointed. This one was much better after a little time laying down. The tannic structure was much better and the overall meatiness of the wine improved. Nice fresh blue and red fruit with some vanilla and baking spices.
December 4, 2021 - Thin, lacking flavor, blah over 3 days. Couldn't coax much out of it. Ripped off at $60 -- there are better cabs at $20.
October 30, 2021 - Light in color, thin in taste and overall disappointing. Purchased the 2014 and 2017 direct from the winery (was shut out on '18 & '19). Loved the 2014 and like other 2017's, this just falls flat.
August 9, 2021 - This bottle was a major disappointment and not like other Pott NV I've had in the past. Decent flavors but that's about it. Tried to coax for over 2 days. !st day was fairly simple and sweet (totally embarrassed by a 2017 Hall 1873). The second day it balanced out better but had nothing you couldn't get in a $15-20 bottle. Simple, thin, no finish...blah. It's drinkable but life is too short for expensive box wine.
May 10, 2021 - At this stage of its evolution this needs a nice 60-90 minute decant. We drank this over 2 hours and it was much better at the end.
Score is based on how it was after being opened for a while. Could go higher with additional cellar time or proper decant.
February 16, 2021 - Decanted 40 mins. then reopened over an hour later. was a bit tight at first, but opened nicely. Has many years left in it. Nice big napa cab
January 16, 2021 - Continuing to improve over the last 6 months.
August 24, 2020 - One hour slow ox. Wine was good to go, showing lots of fruit. Moderate tannins. Went well with burgers.
June 27, 2020 - A wonderful wine. New World flavours with Old World sensibility.
June 10, 2020 - Color was dark ruby from below and purple from above with relatively fast glycerol (legs). On the nose blackberry, juniper, sage and oak. On the palate lots of black currants, blackberries leather and some oak. The finish was still pretty tight and closed and very head with copious amounts of oak at the end even with a 3 hour decant. Aaron’s wine should come with a warning label. If you think 10 years is enough, give it 20, if you think 20 is enough give it 30. Will try this one again in 2025.
