January 7, 2024 - Similar notes to what others have said. Petrol, lemon, apple, and a waxy element. Been enjoying this domestic Riesling over the years, and this one is no different.

December 10, 2023 - Opened the second of four bottles of this while having a dungeoness crab dinner. Same notes as before. Huge lemon and a little bit of petrol, but it’s so well-balanced. Honestly I want to sit on my last couple bottles and see how they develop towards 10+ years of life, but it’s such an excellent wine that I’m not sure even my discipline will be enough. Bravo.

June 4, 2023 - Served with broiled steelhead (with Dijon and herbs) and grilled potatoes and asparagus.

Nose: Lemon pith, gasoline/petrol, stones. And already it’s intense. Wow.
Palate: I was expecting a massive hit of lemon and acidity up front, and that’s definitely there, but it’s so balanced. It tastes like there might be just a touch of residual sugar and I’m not mad about it. A bit of melon and a lot of minerals toward the back end. It’s refreshing and steely, and yet rich and intense. Finish just goes on and on. The only reason I’m not giving this a 95+ is because I think time is going to be very, very good to it. I have one more bottle of it, and I may give it until 2027 to drink that one - assuming my wife will let me wait that long.

I defy anyone to show me a better Riesling at this price point. And it’s all the more impressive when you consider Smith-Madrone could probably pull these vines, plant Cabernet, and sell more Napa cab at double or treble the price of this. The fact that they don’t shows their commitment to the potential the site has to grow fantastic Riesling, and it shows.

February 6, 2023 - Certainly a good Riesling. It is varietal correct. Lots of plastic and petrol on the nose. Apple and stone fruits on the palate. Will age nicely as well.
