Community Tasting Notes 5

April 22, 2022 - Earthy wine for Earth Day! On the generous nose: wonderful earthiness dominates, with a little smokiness. Cherry fruit aromas take a supportive role. Hint of tar. Some floral notes appear after about 30 minutes. Palate echoes; adds a little spice. Fruit again in supportive role. Oak is present, but in total balance and harmony. Medium body overall with light fruitiness, but earthiness, oak and spice give it some masculinity - like a featherweight boxer. Big finish with medium to long length. *Cote de Beaune focused estate founded in 1997 by Valerie and Philippe Jeannot; their son Quentin joined in 2014 after winemaking school. *from 55 y.o. vines *Diam closure.

February 12, 2022 - Very pale garnet color. Left bottle open for a hour before drinking. Very aromatic nose with raspberries and wild strawberries all over. The palate is lithe, nice acidity, lots of red berries and red cherries on the mid-palate, then a hint of anise and a light touch of oak and spice - with a hint of wild herbs - on the medium long ending. Quite enjoyable for the price - Marange and Santenay are proving to be two great appellations for good quality, affordable Premier Crus.

July 19, 2021 - Very light ruby, near translucent, transparent at the edge of the glass. Fine nose of rose petals, a bit of orange zest, perhaps fallen leaves and tobacco or smoke, and stones/minerality. Light but quite lengthy palate continues rose and orange flavors as well as strawberry, shows rather high acid, not overdone, tannin on the light side, and confirms the complexity that the nose let me to expect .

A year ago the acid in this was nearly overwhelming, and while I'm sure it is still too young, I don't think that I will allow the couple remaining to last long. Special wine imho, wish I had more.

November 24, 2020 - Wow! I really enjoyed this Burgundy and I find it completely astounding that another Pinot I drank against this on a tasting has higher ratings. I guess there truly is no accounting for taste?

Very light ruby, almost translucent. Beautiful bouquet on the nose. Cherry, floral and vegetal flavors. Really complex and lingers on the palette. Almost no alcohol on the nose. Very smooth and light in texture.

About an hour or so after I drank it I found myself still contemplating the flavors and aromas.

April 10, 2020 - Maybe a bit early to drink, but hey it's a global viral pandemic and I'm locked inside. Nose of apple blossom, fallen leaves, wildflower honey, tobacco, smoke, soil. Giving this 2+ hours time really opened it up as young as the bottle is. Taste of strawberry, red fruit, soil, thin but present tannin and a great long finish. Had with filet mignon, spring potato, asparagus. Paired well with the lighter cut of meat. Extremely yummy.
