June 17, 2023 - While I’m sure this was a great bottle in its prime, this 2005 Anden was dead on arrival. We opened this alongside a 2005 St Innocent Shea Vineyard, which was still great. They have been side by side in my cellar for a decade, so can only chalk the difference up to the vineyards? On opening it smelled like stomach acid, and tasted about like it too. After decanting and resting for an hour it got a little better, but was still hardly palatable.

August 23, 2020 - Cork broke with half ending up in the bottle, so I decanted about 30 minutes before family dinner. Nicely integrated wine with lots of darker cherry and iodine flavors on the tongue. Went well with grilled chicken.

July 25, 2020 - Wow! Amazingly vibrant for it's age, complex flavors of cranberry, earth, oak and sous bois. I've always been a big fan of St. Innocent Anden and this was exactly what I hoped for, in spite of its age. Nothing dried-put about this bottle - I would have guessed it for a 7-10 year old wine. Great balance and typical Oregon pinot lean and silky texture. Plenty of life left in this beauty. 92+

June 20, 2020 - Per the label, from vines planted in 1982. Decanted 15 minutes before the meal. Deep ruby color with scarlet hints. Nose of fresh cut berry, violets, damp cellar. After about 45 minutes the palate revealed layers of dense black cherry, raspberry, and plum with bits of cola and iodine. Bright acidity and smoothed tannin. Moderately long finish of red and dark cherry notes cut with stony earth. Excellent showing which might have benefited from a longer decant.

June 1, 2019 - Classic, aged Oregon pinot drinking just slightly beyond its peak. Dark fruits with some dryness from age, a lean texture, earth, and spice. Everything is homogeneous, balanced and silky smooth. This clearly shows it age, but the combination of flavors and textures was terrific.
