December 5, 2023 - A tasty Rioja at Sinterklaas eve: oak, bramble, toast, plum, cedar, blackberry, dark chocolate, blackcurrant, medium to full body, creamy dark fruit vanilla finish.

August 18, 2023 - Theme for Andrew S and Muruga Vadivale's dinner in La Sense was "surprise".. and for USD 85, I am hard pressed to think of another wine I would bring along!

This unique blend goes back to the pre-phylloxera era to use Cab in Rioja, which in this case is 10% Cab and 10% Graciano added to circa 80% Tempranillo.

I also learned that the use of Cab or Cabernet Sauvignon is not allowed in the Rioja, however the exception was permitted, since the Cabernet vines at Murrieta are older than the production guidelines of the Rioja!

Blackberry and dark chocolate nose, and a great underlying vanilla and cream oak of the finest French quality is all there. Quite a flamboyant wine, good tannic backbone with a fine balance.

November 8, 2022 - Had a six-pack of this excellent wine over the past few months (also visited their winery during June). Needs about 30-60 minutes of decanting and off you go. Strong but contained tannins in the modern Rioja style. It has a vanilla-oaky taste that is somewhat sweet (in a good way) and makes the wine very approachable and attractive. Highly recommended.

April 15, 2021 - One. This is approachable already at this stage. The nose opened up fast with graphite, cedar, flower, and a hint of smokiness. On the palate, it was still a bit tight which indicated the long life ahead. The core was stuffed with licorice, cassis, and chocolate. Then, the creamy finish kept asking me to sip again and again. Solid and alluring wine.

November 2, 2019 - Lots of vanilla and oaky notes - way too young, tasted pre-release out of the bottle. Harsh tannins - needs a lot of time. (Tasted at Decanter Fine Wine Encounter 2019 Masterclass.)
