I'm going to have to look up whether they use an carbonic maceration on this wine because it kind of gives me that hollowed-out, candied fruit quality that I associate with that technique—and which I am not looking for in a Côtes du Rhône. There's not much else going on here—the slightly smoky/meaty aspects of the nose don't follow through on the palate, unfortunately.
  
  This is disappointing for me. Not because it's bad—it's perfectly pleasant, ripe, and clean—but it has no depth or complexity, and in style it puts me more in mind of Beaujolais than the Rhône. I prefer something heartier and darker (in flavor, not necessarily color) from a CdR.
