Community Tasting Notes 11

November 30, 2023 - I came across a couple of cases of Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cab at an estate auction around 2020. Certainly the anticipation was building to try this wine after a short few years in the cellar. In late 2022, after some consideration , I decided to see how things were progressing with this wine. So, went ahead and popped a bottle , decanted for 2 hours and had my first taste experience with this wine. Not a good one it must be said. rubbing even worse since this wine has some aging on it. The words ordinary , devoid of personality, mundane and unexciting all came to mind. The taste profile seems overly manipulated and comes up short of offering anything remotely acceptable at the $40 price category. As happened on my first outing with this wine , the almost full bottle was quicly discarded down the sink. Same result after this 4th or 5th bottle now. Waster of time for me. Although one saving grace to it all. Now the value quotient of some French Bdx wines at $25 wipes the floor with this disappointing Napa Valley wine in the most emphatic way possible. Come to think of it , add in some less expensive @ approx. $30 i.e. BV Napa Valley, although superior to the Robert Mondavi Napa Cab in that very same discussion.

April 16, 2023 - Tasted slightly musty and may have been corked.

November 18, 2021 - Initial powerful, “in your face” fruity notes of black fruits, blackcurrant, green notes, mint, menthol. Typical Napa. Overtime, the flavours softens and becomes more elegant on the nose.

Rough and powerful tannins, but softens overtime. Slightly sweet on the entry, but slightly medicinal at the end. Overall complex, good length, but a bit too pushy

July 10, 2021 - Pretty flawless cabernet sauvignon, reminding of Bordeaux. Well executed, though without anything particular, terroir or vintage wise. Very nice balance and certainly not overly oaky. Good, but also a bit anonymous.
