January 18, 2020 - This refreshing and unique Charbono blend is oh-so drinkable right now, with a purity and generosity that could be even more impressive with more time in bottle. Dark purple in color and full in body, the wine offers aromas of blueberry pie, cherry tart, fresh herbs, and graphite. Tastes of sour cherry, anise, fresh peppercorn, and gravel, with a bright and silky finish. Blend of 89% Charbono, 7% Petite Sirah, and 4% Malbec. 14.5% alcohol. Decant at least an hour, if not more.

This wine has less fruit and more acidity than Matt's earlier blends, something that can be attributed to the 2017 vintage, the change in winemakers (from Benoit Touquette to Françoise Peschon), or the introduction of Petite Sirah into the blend. That said, this wine is just as singular and delicious as Matt’s other blends (and, at $55, cheaper, too!). It reminds me a bit of the Ghost Dog: a cure for the common Cabernet, the Heritage blend has a hint of rusticity, but it is so polished and tasty... and goes down so fast. In a word, it's fun - i.e., welcoming, fresh, and unique - and isn't wine supposed to be fun? 93-94 for now, with upside in another 6-12 months.
