April 20, 2013 - Celebrating Cobb's birthday (Phil's place, Chicago IL): Nose: Very interesting and searching nose with tones of black cherries, earth, spices, some meaty tones, and dark red fruits. The nose darts around a bit with very good depth and class.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and silky supporting tannins. The feel is very polished with classy tones of earth tones, spices, meaty tones, and black cherries.
Overall: This was blind and was a moving target. It was hard to tell what this was, but it was really good and balanced. -

May 5, 2012 - Decanted 2 hours, consumed over 8 hours
If you’re a fan of light bodied PNs that are acidic and lightly earthy, then this one is for you. If you like ‘em fruity and rich, this one is about as far as it gets from that. Personally I do like and appreciate dusty/earthy/mineral elements, which the Beacon definitely has; but if it doesn’t have a little bit of body and fruit to balance out the acidity, then I’m out. The acidity does mellow out a little after about 5 hours in the open decanter, but from my fairly broad experience with NW Pinots, this seems out of balance to me.
From looking at the historical notes from the different vintages of the Beacon, I think that this may just be the style of PN that comes out of this vineyard; as opposed to being just over the hill or an off vintage. You’re either going to really, really like this style or your going to be really put off by it.
Not my style, but I’ll give 88 points as a tip-of-the-hat to the elements that it does offer. -

November 25, 2011 - Drank from mag, opened and decanted. Shockingly youthful with black fruits, could go at least 5 years. As it aired, it gained considerable weight and was much less delicate and nimble, but remained very deft. The acidity softened noticeably after hours of air, but did not become flabby. A really nice bottle.

June 27, 2009 - Burgers on a saturday night (Shane's abode): nose: this changed a lot over the evening, and at every twist and turn it provided intrigue. It initially gave off lovely and perfumed tones of dark red cherries, mineral rich earth tones, loads of various spices, some bits of chalk, dark berries, and hints of dark florals. As it continued to evolve, a smokey tone emerged along with some smoked meats a bit. Towards the end of the evening, it would've been hard to distinguish this as an oregon pinot as it had a very volnay quality to it
taste: very vibrant with plush tones of dark cherries, spices, dark berries, rich earthy tones, and some bits of roasted meats started to show later on too. Very round and so polished on the palate with excellent medium+ acidity that presents itself well and should allow for some further aging
overall: a wonderful moving target. Lots of interesting twists and turns that really keep your attention going and keep you on your feet. There is little to no browning or bricking at the rim and the acidity is very vibrant right now. Extremely enjoyable at the moment, and can certainly go a further 5-8 years
