December 27, 2023 - Opened at Petrus in HK. P&P and slowly enjoyed over dinner.

Upon opening, this immediately felt like a bigger and tighter Soldera, and was a bit closed. However, after a few small pours and about 30 mins, it really started to blossom and open up. The distinctive sweet, seductive red fruit nose came out after some air and coaxing in the glass, and every fresh pour for about 2 hours just kept on stepping up the level. Tannins wonderfully soft and resolved, even though there was clear structure and acidity in the background to provide backbone. Very long finish and just so nice to sip. Wonderful wine.

Will keep at this level for a while, but also unsure of upside if you like Soldera in its more primary phase. I for one would not hesitate to drink more if I came across another one.

Finally, C's first Soldera - a pleasure to share with her!

December 2, 2022 - Corney & Barrow - Soldera Masterclass (Andaz Hotel - Studio II): Pale ruby. Aromas of roses, cherry, and pepper. Lean, bright acids, with florals and cloves. Fairly long finish. Seems still tight amd can do with more age

April 16, 2022 - I opened 3 bottles of 2009 Soldera for an important family dinner.
I had taken my 10 year old grandson into the wine cellar to start teaching him about wine, and he said " open the best !" This was not quite the best, but it should have been better. I opened it 3.5 hours early, and notices it was very thin looking and tasted oxidized. It did not improve. We barely drank it that night. 24 hours later, I tried some just to see what happened, and it actually improved a bit, but was very unbalanced and had an extremely long finish.
I have stored it on its side in a temperature controlled cellular for several years, so something must have happened before I got it.

August 25, 2018 - Pnp. The nose bursted out with white pepper, spice, sweet cranberries and bouquet. Palate was very elegant with sweet red fruit. Unfortunately, it further confirms my thesis that soldera will no longer make wines like it used to in pre-2000 that was dense, powerful and backward. I am sure the burgundy lover will enjoy the new style, but a true Soldera fan will undoubtedly be disappointed. It lacks the richness and density of the older vintage. This was a much lighter style.
