November 5, 2023 - Deep dark ruby color, violet reflections, long legs; Dark berry fruit, fine tobacco herbal spice, nuances of French precious wood, some nougat and bourbon vanilla. Powerful, complex, sweet cherry fruit, spicy tannins, dark chocolate on the finish, mineral and long-lasting, a luxury Rioja with a modern style - now at peak, enjoy

September 16, 2022 - 100% Tempranillo but the winemakers did such a brilliant job making a modern fresh and not overly oaked Rioja!
Prepped with 1.5 hours in the decanter, then 1 hour of bottle breathing.
Dark and dense, nearly purplish hues, the notes are rich cherries and blackfruit, with chocolate snd light pepper too. Med-long finish.
Fooled all the Vivino masters and Col as well as new friend SH, at dinner.. as most thought CS or Merlot, and thus Bdx or Super Tuscan! SH got it right on his second guess though.. Spanish!
Vineyards are 70 to 100 years old meaning some are actually from plots with vines which are pre-phylloxera.
Elevation is varied but relatively high at between 400 and 650m in Rioja Alta and up to 740m in Rioja Alavesa.
Aged for a minimum of 2 years in the bottle at the winery before the market launch back in Christmas 2019.
With sufficient prep this Rioja is ready to be enjoyed this year or in 2023, its quite a find and not one which I often come across.
Tannins are already polished, and I appreciated the fermentation in primarily new French fine grain oak barrels which were medium roasted. This seemed not to overly disguise or mask the wine with vanilla and oak.
Instead I found this to have vibrant fruit notes and what I would describe as a modern take on Rioja.
