Community Tasting Notes 5

April 21, 2024 - Traditional blend from fruit sourced from La Morra, Barolo and Castiglione Falletto. PNP. Cherries, Strawberries. Long line of tannins. A rustic style perhaps but very enjoyable.

June 24, 2022 - Dinner at Forma: Better on pop and pour, fruit was more evident before the wall of tannins took over. Slightly funky and rustic with blood and some gamey notes. Traditional Barolo that needs a lot more time.

October 4, 2021 - Dunno why I opened another one of these... maybe because I remembered it to be fabulously delish. You really should wait on this one.

Distinctly floral, which is just classic Barolo, showing both rose and violet notes; dried and fresh fruits, cherry and strawberry, orange oil, cinnamon, mushrooms, petrichor and mint as well. Very dry, with firm tannins and assertive acids, but there's enough fruit to keep it relatively friendly. I am an easy friend to old-school Barolo, so keep that in mind. Fresh, grippy, complex. Love this. Save it for 10 years.

May 1, 2021 - Nose > Menthol, orange, spearmint, red & wild cherry with tomato/grilled tomato & rhubarb.
    Fine, aromatic, elegant, light.
Palate > Big, toasted/smoky grilled cherry, cranberry & red raspberry with grilled tomato.
Lean structure with underlying minerality & a touch of astringency.

December 14, 2020 - Shouldn't have, as this is tight and taut, and not opening up. Fresh and airy on the nose, red fruits, herbs, roses, a little clay and mushrooms. Lively and elegant, but very tense and nervy right now. Classic pleasant austerity, certainly tannic but not overly dry or grippy, the finish is long and complex, but focused on minerality, flowers and herbs, with hints of ripe red fruit poking through. It is not going to be for those looking for a flashy or rich style of Barolo. It may come around nicely in a couple years, but I would wait longer. Prime time is going to be 5+ years from now, maybe 10+. Really good, but not at all ready. Let's see what happens tomorrow...

It certainly does open up with 24 hours of air. Sweet red cherry becomes clear and the mushroom and rose notes really shine. On the palate it is still tight, but there's a bit more weight and textural allure. I might be tempted to try it again in a few years, but I think the best will come later than that.
