December 6, 2023 - Deep purple. Red fruits and graphite on the nose. Add a trace of orange cest on the palate. Firm tannins and high acidity. Reminds me of the 2018 Spottswoode I had not long ago, believing the 2016 vintage had set that label on a different course. Not so. Still making age worthy wines that demand a decade or more in the cellar. Judging from this bottle, Patria A Price is in that category too. As noted before, the drinking window may be further pushed out by the vintage. Thanks to all the members that warned me off, you were right, but I wanted to get a sense of where these are going myself. In sum, I think this is true to both the place and varietal, and may certainly evolve into something special. But patience is required. Drink in 2028+

September 30, 2023 - Tired of waiting on others to see if/when this one turns to drinkable, so thought I'd sacrifice one this afternoon....pnp'd into a decanter. Color is opaque deep purple, nose of slight sage/herbal notes and dark fruit. Initial palate of dark red/black plum fruit, oak, herbs and coffee grounds. Later on with air there's good, dense weight in the mouth and some graphite notes.

Enjoyed over 1-4 hours with hard cheeses, sweet onion salsa/chips, chicken, mushroom & spinach ravioli with an Alfredo sauce. Varying degrees of positive elements going on here, yet in the end this one seems to beg for even more time. It's clearly not as tight or bitter as those bottles of 2 years ago noted on CT but at this rate it might be 5-10+ more years til this one performs up to any of its capabilities. How on Earth was this rated 96 points by LPB at WA?

Towards the end of the 4 hours this one does turn a bit more blackish indicating it's still too young. Notes of ox blood and iron pan on the end, at the end, along with some moderate astringency at times and the fruit (which has some good rich qualities to it, trends toward a certain tartness). Not my favorite Patria by a longshot. 89, maybe barely a 90 right now, with air. There's one glass left for later this night. I'll report back if there's any further news......

Addendum: 8 hours open to air.....this wine changes dramatically. The graphite on the nose further improves it. The fruit deepens and dark sweet cassis shows up. The herbal/bay leaf component fades a little into the background. The acidity outranks the tannins now and there's a better finish as well as a salinity component overall to the wine both on the front and the back end of the palate. The remaining tannins could still use some more time in bottle to resolve. I have a couple of these left but will let them sit for other 2 years probably, before trying again. If you open one of these now, make sure you allow 8 hours of air for it to come around. That extra 4 hours of airtime changed this one from an 89-90 to a 93-94, At least now I can see how this one could possibly sniff LPBs 96 one day....maybe in 2030?

November 1, 2021 - This is my 2nd bottle of A. Price and it got worse; not better. I will refrain from rating it because maybe the bottle is flawed but it is bitter to the core and I opened the cork at around 1pm. A little musty, bitter tasting. On the positive side, the color is very nice and there is quite a bit going on. I rarely give a bottle NR but I will since the wine maker is very cool. That said, if I was rating it on my scale, it would prob be 82 point. def lower than 85.

July 15, 2021 - Very young and needs more time to come together and sing. However, it’s a wonderful colour with a big nose. The delicateness in the mouth is surprising. Getting more to cellar!
