Community Tasting Notes 3

  • ChristopherB Does not like this wine:

December 29, 2022 - Tasted at Xmas party in Bouaye (I brought it). Briefly - not sure what it is that I don't like about Savigny-l-B. wines, but I still don't, despite this being the first tasted in over 10 years, and my appreciation of Pinot Noir has grown tremendously since then. I've had other PNs from this producer which I enjoyed. It isn't a question of acidity, as I have had more lively PNs elsewhere. It must be something either in the fruit/acidity/tannin balance or something in the flavour profile.

Regardless, though technically fine, I wouldn't get this again. Technically, perhaps an 89. For my pleasure, an 85 or so.

October 12, 2022 - Had with chanterelle mushroom risotto- went well. Pretty fruity, leaning towards black cherry and syrupy strawberry, med-full, plenty of fruit acid to go around. Some exotic spiciness and potpourri on the finish. Color me surprised for a random bottle. Held up over two nights, fun to drink now, probably better in the midterm aging wise- 5-7yrs from now, as the fruit concentration is pretty big, I'd like to see some more spice and sous bois.

January 19, 2022 - On a whim, decided to give it a try. Totally unexpected - this wine is wide open and very tasty. Best at 56-58F. Promising aromatic nose of plums and raspberries. Dark cherries and raspberries on the palate. Nice balance at near-cellar temperatures. As it gets warmer in the glass, it becomes heavier and the acid balance diminishes. Overall - very impressed. No hint of heat. Not sure how it would age (and if there any point in aging this perfectly quaffable wine).
