March 30, 2021 - Herbaceous almost stalky notes dominate lemon, honey, toast, sweet spice. A little cream and butter, medium plus intensity acidity, textured mid- palate, similar flavours; the stalks lend a smoky/ashy quality, rather nice in a slightly odd way.

August 12, 2016 - A sound bottle. It's always a risk opening older White Burgs and Matrot adds another element such is the strike rate I've had with them. When they're good they're very good and this was no exception. Initially I thought something was a bit odd about this wine as it showed an acute gravelly character which I sometimes associate with whole bunch character in red wines. It started off fairly reductive as well which was a good early sign in a wine of this age. As I had hoped the reduction blew off and the pronounced gravel receded with it. It doesn't disappear completely though and at stages reminded me of rot present in Pinot which was a bit bizarre. The further I go into the bottle the less noticeable it is and it actually starts to present itself as a pure expression of the terroir. Quite bizarre and interesting certainly not unpleasant. The wine itself is showing maturity but still has a lovely freshness about it too. Lively acidity and good flavour profile make this a very enjoyable, if not the most complex, premier cru. There is plenty of verve and drive but maybe missing that little bit extra flair and finesse of the better cru's but hey at ten years plus it's still giving a lot. This was a great bottle of wine in the perfect place right now and at $30 a bargain.

Edit: Drinking tees said it so succinctly and correctly with his/her note below. A lovely cashew element which I neglected to mention above is a really prominent and complex character and the gravel is like "Drinking tees" said like "white ash". Nailed it with that.

September 9, 2013 - Nose of white ash with hints of potpourri and crème fraîche. Very mature, complex and delicate, and the palate is the same, showing a great balance of acidic primary flavours and creamy secondary flavours. Crisp, fruity acid on the entry, then lovely notes of cream, sour cream and cashew.

February 4, 2012 - Deep gold color (ugh), slightly oxidized nose, over-ripe, somewhat caramelized fruit. Just over the hill.

October 14, 2011 - These days it's always with a bit of trepidation one opens white Burgs (and Matrot seems a prime offender), but even poured in a decanter this is fine. Pears, hazelnut and a little lemon peel, full bodied, balanced acids, good length. Still young, but aging these would take a huge leap of faith. B+/A-
