Community Tasting Notes 68

June 17, 2010 - Has it been going on three years since Wine Expressions sadly gave up the ghost and those little Saturday gatherings over a few well-selected, though not sportingly priced, bottles dispersed? This was one such bottle and interesting to see the ream of TNs over the intervening time. Ours had the orange cork, not distasteful, as opposed to the screw cap. Someone mentioned salinity on the nose; I thought so too. Quite a deep yellow by now, orchard fruits, nice unctuous feel, acidity, gravelly undertones. It;s good.

May 16, 2010 - {screwcap, 12.5%, A$16} Odd to find a wine sealed with a Stelvin Lux no less, and yet they botched it up; corrosion around the outside of the cap - not visible until opening. What I should have noticed (recently-bought bottle) was that the level was right at the bottom of the neck. There's a warning for you. Anyway, the wine is a mid yellow. The palate is quite aged, with straw and sweet grapefruit aromas. The palate is just a little flat I think; flavours of straw & shellfish have a quite greasy texture; there's a prickle of acid but that's the only way the acidity seems present; the finish is rather flat. There's some coverage to the mid-palate; with this aged profile the wine qualifies as virtually medium-bodied. So, possibly not typical (although other TNs suggests the seal issue is not isolated); not ruined, but probably below its best. Avoid this vintage, I guess, from now on.

February 28, 2010 - Some nice citrusy notes and a fleshy palate. Spoilt by some sulphur flavours - cauliflower, garlic which seemed to increase with time as the citrusy aromas faded. Sealed by screwcap so I think probably careless sulphur management is the issue, probably much more noticeable given the wine is really a bit old for this style.

October 2, 2009 - Floral stone fruits not bold enough for chile shrimp.

June 30, 2009 - nice crisp acidity on this with peach and honeysuckle notes, despite being quite dry.
