Community Tasting Notes 5

April 22, 2023 - A blend of biodynamically farmed Chardonnay (80%) and Friulano (20%). Fermented spontaneously, macerated with the skins for 12 days, aged for 18 months in 3500-liter oak casks. 14% alcohol.

Hazy, evolved and moderately deep golden-yellow color. The nose feels quite wild, funky and volatile with aromas of bruised apple, some acetic notes of VA, a little bit of leathery funk, light zesty notes of ripe blood orange and other citrus fruits, a sweet, lifted hint of nail polish and a touch of chopped nuts. The wine feels wild, lifted and moderately natty on the palate with a medium body and very intense flavors of crunchy red apples and ripe citrus fruits, some sauvage notes of bretty funk, a little bit of acetic VA, light spicy phenolic tones, a hint of apple peel bitterness and a lifted touch of nail polish. The wine is high in acidity but there is no noticeable tannic grip. The finish is crunchy, savory and quite volatile with flavors of acetic VA, some sweet nail polish tones, a little bit of phenolic spice, light tart notes of lemony citrus fruit, hints of white peach and bruised apple and a leathery touch of bretty funk.

It seems there is a nice skin-contact wine underneath, but the overall feel is heavily dominated by too elevated level of VA, lending a sweet, heady and rather thinner-like chemical character to the nose and a bit too sharp and vinegary streak of acetic tang to the taste. If it weren't for the excessively volatile overall character, this would've been a pretty nice and balanced orange wine. Now a small glass of this is enough for me - even if I can tolerate some VA with ease. This is getting too volatile even for my preference. No need to age the wine - no matter of aging is going to fix problems with this much VA. Feels a bit pricey for the quality at 26,90€.

August 14, 2021 - The wine looks orange colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like peach blossom and honey. The body is medium. The wine has bright texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity.

February 17, 2021 - Let's just say I was misinformed as to how back to center Radikon had gotten. I recall some recent wines being more classic with a deft touch of skins and whatnot. Ummm. No. Full on orange texture generic flavor. Worse, left a day on the counter, it popped a rubber stopper. (No fizz in glass, tbf.)

Is good+ orange wine but I miss the more interesting expression I recall here.

February 13, 2021 - This is about as far into the natty territory I like to go. Yes there’s VA, and some musty ness, but there’s also a depth to the nose with apricot and dried fruit. The palate too is very balanced. And another plus, this pairs like a dream with seafood like tuna. It’s a little out there, but this is good stuff. And young.

February 5, 2021 - It's a nice orange style wine - easy to drink. But I just don't think Chardonnay offers enough with orange styles. The aromatics are a bit generic, the palate is very drinkable with gentle astringency, hints of tea and spice, and good acidity, but nothing particularly characterful. Certainly not worth the money
