December 27, 2023 - Back in the summer of 2018, I interviewed Charlie Holland for a podcast I was making at the time called An Introduction to English Wine. The interview took place overlooking the Boot Hill Vineyard, and I remember commenting on how good the summer had been so far. It was only later I realised my luck of producing that podcast in what would be a very good vintage for English wine.

When this was eventually released, I sadly couldn't get hold of a bottle. Then a few weeks ago, a local favourite wine shop and bar mentioned they'd been holding on to the bottles from 2018.

This is such a lovely wine. Colourwise, it's Beaujolais or Jura red in translucency, but with 12.5% ABV weight. I'd read a few of the other reviews on here expecting it maybe to be heading on its way out, but this was still fresh and packed full of the damson plums that this vintage(/wine? / climate?) are known for in other comments. Some other less prominent red fruits, a touch of herbal, and a touch of floral are there too. The palate was smooth and balanced. A very well made wine.

Very glad to have finally got to taste this and this definitely doesn't feel close to being over the hill. Would happily buy again if I ever got the chance.

April 24, 2022 - Clearly some youth in the appearance, but a remarkably dark colour pinot noir.
Wow! What a really gorgeous nose. Dark raspberry, sweet damson, and floral (rose?) slightly scented aromatics.
Warm and focussed on the attack. There's an almost Californian richness to the red fruit in the mouth, but keeping that laser-like focus throughout. A very silky mouthfeel with a little tickle of tannins on the finish.
And it's only 12.5% abv too. Giving it an extra point for the low-ish alcohol.

February 25, 2022 - What a treat to try this again.
Very ripe fruit on the nose - damson jam "a whole different spectrum of fruit" Charlie Holland commented.
Nice ripe tannin, floral notes and then the fruit just keeps going "peacocks tale" CH. Then there's a cedar wood character coming through.
    Just gorgeous.
Next day, it wasnt' quite as good, a little softer. I think it's probably not one to keep much longer but it's very impressive.

June 14, 2021 - PnP. Aromatic and scented nose, wild cherries, violets and herbs. There's a soft side to this and it's very delicate. It's brisk acidity supported by smooth tannins. It seemed a bit darker in its overall impression than last year, but very well made, but not any qpr.
