Community Tasting Notes 5

April 28, 2022 - En-Primeur campaign for the 2021 vintage; 4/25/2022-4/29/2022 (Bordeaux): Plummy, earthy, especially clay, a little band aid, brambles, pyrazine, and graphite. On the palate it’s sourly wet with muted plummy fruit and slightly coarsely textured tannic burr. With time a Bretty note grows on the nose and the plummy fruit rounds out and softens on the palate and is joined by some blackcurrant cordial.

November 20, 2020 - Nose with "right bank-style fruitcake" notes, dark plums and dark cherries, some spice, some chocolate and developed notes. Medium bodied with sweetish dark and red berries, some tannins with perhaps a little dry edge to them, good acidity, perhaps a little short on the finish. Nice maturity, drinks well now, not at all old, 86 p.

Some other vintages of Coufran have perhaps been more impressive, either in terms of concentration or the amount of classical mature notes at a similar age, but on my palate there's nothing wrong with this bottle.

February 13, 2019 - Strict, medium-bodied, almost light wine with lean red fruits in its core and rustic tannins in the finish.

    August 11, 2018 - Just like the 2013 review.

November 29, 2013 - Good start, with an enticing nose of cherry and spices, a decent attack of the same, quite winsomely thick, but then it all rather falls apart, with a thin, tannic middle section and a short finish. The wine dried noticeably as the evening progressed to leave only a tannic structure without much fruit. Just about drinkable, so better than the 02 or the 03, but a poor effort.
