September 8, 2021 - Double Birthday dinner at an old wine-trade friend's house. I did the wine - he the food! Note to follow - but will easily last 100++ years from vintage. Staggering wine.

    March 21, 2020 - Eve of Mother's Day dinner with hunkered-down family.
Still nothing to add to my 23/12/17 note. Phenomenal AND moreish at the same time - a rare combination for a dessert wine.
Virtually immortal - at least 120yrs from vintage.

    February 24, 2018 - Eldest daughter's birthday dinner.
Nothing to add to my Christmas '17 note. Superb and virtually immortal.

December 23, 2017 - Main family seasonal dinner (only day to get all together including our two 2017 vintage grandsons - our first grandchildren).
Hasn't shifted in character since my last (2015) note. Brûlée caramel with a intense core of Saharan dried fruits studded and a hint of wild red berries for added complexity. Smoke. Remarkably racy with the acidity to balance the intrinsic sweetness. Immense concentration and very, very long. Perfect with our Xmas pudding which it tackled without blinking!
Fabulous wine that is virtually immortal. I've put 130yrs from vintage as a best guess!!

September 21, 2016 - Hazy, syrupy brown color with reddish hues and a golden yellow rim. Some deposit in the glass. Robust, oxidative and very sweet bouquet with heady aromas of dried figs, baked plums, concentrated syrupy fruit salad jiuce, sweet roasted nuts, some spicy fruit cake and a little caramel. Very full-bodied, lusciously sweet and sticky palate with flavors of dar syrup, apple jam, very pronounced raisin character, rose hip marmalade, some bitter roasted spices, a little dried apricot and a hint of burnt sugar. Medium acidity. Brooding, luscious, extremely concentrated and almost endless aftertaste of syrup, molasses, chocolate dressing, mocha, some smoke, a little coffee, hints of sweet raisin and a touch of cherry marmalade.

Incredibly sweet, infinitely complex and simply stunning fortified wine. A spectacular wine by any standards and most likely will show no problems reaching 100 years of age. However, in a tasting of six Massandra wines from 1965 to 1931, this was a bit heavy on the sugar side, which is why I rated the two younger "Kagor" wines with more acidity and less sugar a bit higher - they showed even more complexity combined with remarkable brightness and finesse. Still, this is a one-of-a-kind experience and easily one of the most incredible fortified wines I have ever tasted. In this tasting of 18 attendees and six Massandra wines, this wine was a favorite of five, giving it a first place.
