March 26, 2022 - My first Viognier. Medium gold, relatively full body for a white wine. Drank at cellar temp (55 degrees F) at first, which may have been a mistake. Honeysuckle and peach on the nose, with a funk resembling a white mushroom of some kind. Some faint traces of oak on the nose as well. Very round on the palate with an oily texture, peaches, oak, and some sweetness. Honestly reminded me of a white gummy bear in liquid form. Found myself wishing there was more acidity, as it was fairly heavy with the bold flavors, oaked sweetness, and mouth-coating intensity. Gave it a full refrigerator chill and it was much better. Day two, the acidity came out a bit more, which gave it much better balence. I can see the allure for the varietal and feel like this is well made, but might not be completely suited for my palate. Still prefer this to an oaky new-world Chardonnay though.
