Community Tasting Notes 2

July 10, 2021 - I recently wrote a note on the Dido tinto which is one of my wines of the year so far and this isn't far behind. A blend of Macabeu, Garnacha blanco and Cartoixa (aka Xarel-lo). A beautiful shade of gold in the glass. This has a fabulous and complex nose of bay leaf, bruised apple, fresh herbs, fennel, crushed coriander seed, pear, chalk, stone and honey. The palate has considerable depth, texture and grip with big minerality, hay, almond and herbal notes all coming into play before roasted stone fruits and even some pineapple appear. There was skin contact during its elévage and that's beautifully evident. The very good acidity keeps everything in check through the long, saline finish. Unusual and brilliant.

July 12, 2020 - I'm rediscovering the wonderful and delicious Dido Blanc, a go-to Montsant white for me, going back many years. Macabeu (50%), Garnatxa Blanca (40%) and Cartoixà (Xarel·lo) at 10%. Golden straw colour, luminous, a touch of copper as well. Creamy, buttery and a smidgen of reduction which fortunately pretty much vanishes after a few moments' swirling. Oily, fatty and dense. Almonds, walnuts and saline sensations. The fruit plays a secondary but no less important role: peaches, melones, apricots, even coconut. A long, generous finish, with elegant minerality. There's also an emotional component for me, reminding me of the Montsant landscape: rocky, dry, dramatic.
