Community Tasting Notes 8

  • Echinosum Likes this wine:

June 10, 2023 - Fruit toned down from earlier tastings, guess it might need a bit longer to show us its full mature condition. Still very excellent, beautifully built, wine.

  • Madi Likes this wine: 92 points

October 24, 2022 - Full and fruity, with nice acidity and structured tanins. Pairs greatly with chestnuts. I really liked it al lot!

    July 30, 2021 - So classy.

April 13, 2021 - Pale to medium straw colour. On day 1, the oak was very prominent on the nose, but by day 2 it was more subtle and integrated, and the spicy orchard fruits were more evident on the nose. As some others say, a big fat Chenin, 14%. But I find it very well balanced, with plenty of acid to balance that ripeness. Palate dominated by spicy orchard fruits, and thick and waxy too. Concentrated and long. Someone mentioned lemon curd on the finish that comes later: I can just see that on day 2.

I think this is lovely to drink now, but there are ripe fruit acids that will continue to open out, and enough acid to preserve it for some years yet.

I think this is seriously good wine, and not to be slurped in a hurry. I think the best is yet to come. Tim Atkins calls it "consistently one of the best top Cape Chenins". It's certainly a big step up from anything else I have tried.

July 18, 2020 - Medium lemon, pronounced nose. Nectarines, honey, peaches, lime zest. Creamy texture, well integrated oak. Delicious. Really wonderful stuff. Q:4 P:2 X:2 Total: 8/10
