September 4, 2023 - Boom. A Dolcetto that strikes you in a way that is so typical for Flavio and all his wines. The Superiore 2016 carries its trademark density, intensity and structural peculiarity. The slight funk on the nose introduces the wine and wakes the full curiosity. As the first scent blows away with time, the wine grows in the glass and gains weight & details. The powerful thrust remains, embeded in aromas of sour cherry, spiced berries, damp forest floor and a hint of horse saddle. Rich, but also fierce and zesty, you can feel a push & pull of different sides here. A Dolcetto that will enchant all Roddolo fans. Take your time with the bottle though.

August 28, 2022 - Day 1 - Nose - ripe fresh blackberries and blueberries smushed together, bright/smoky black tea, some animal funk, and intense high pitched layer of exotic ylang ylang flowers that you smell in the humid warm evening in tropical resort after the sunset - the last one really gives life to overall flavor profile. Palate - medium-high tannin with silky/seamless fine texture is giving smooth linear direction like bearing (rolls in mouth almost weightlessly/frictionlessly). Medium acidity is totally hidden in the background and just lubricating the overall quiet/calm concentration. 14.5% abv, but feels almost as light/easy as Lambrusco. Finish is medium+ length, with lingering moist earthiness that is slightly nostalgic. Precise and having real nerve that I want from Piedmont . 91-92.

Day 2 - changed a lot. A lot more plum-forward, with distinct dark chocolate flavor (berry-scented one), violet, and a touch of varnished wood. I have to adjust both tannin and acidity to high - upfront and bold today. A bit reminds of both young low-yield carignan blend from hilly Languedoc as well as moderately matured Portuguese Touriga National. 90-91.

Interestingly Day 3 was the most closed - prohibitively tight and needed heavy food to shine (garlic/soy korean fried chicken). Still the complexity and calm depth tell this is an outstanding wine.
