April 7, 2024 - Deep red colour, delicate nose with the expected rose leaves and tar notes. On the palate this took about a day to really come together; on the first day my experience was of a well-made wine that was still a little clunky and un-enjoyable. On the second day this was significantly improved, and some of the traits I expect from Sandri wines were really beginning to show: a pure, linear fruit, focused but ethereal, good length. The wine seems to be in a good place now.

April 2, 2024 - Sometimes you get really surprised... I hade the riserva perno 2013 and was utterly unexited. An overoaked, expensive mistake, was my feeling then. Tasted like stale fruit and wood.Time passes on and here i am popping the 2015 perno and... my impression is exactly the same with this wine. Note to self: stay away from Sandri in the future. 88 if i am being generous.

January 29, 2024 - Alongside the 2016 Colla Bussia this had another gear. More open and with deeper, sweeter dark cherry fruit. Floral notes and mint dance off the cherry and there are feral, savory notes of leather and tobacco. Opened about 45 minutes prior to dinner and went faster than the Colla. The most striking thing is how just simply delicious this is. This should have a really open window which starts now for me.

November 17, 2023 - Elio Sandri Tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): Glass: Riedel Vinum Pinot
Clear, deep ruby color. Beautiful deep, fine, airy and complex nose.
On the palate multi-layered, juicy, fine fruit, deep and dense, wonderful grip and texture. Long, lingering fuity-herbal finish. Beautiful Barolo. 93-94

December 1, 2022 - I brought the 2015 Perno, after my friend told me that he tasted the Riserva not long ago and was pretty amazed by it. I was amazed too, by the non Riserva version, its freshness and striking uplift, attributes that are not really typical for the 2015 vintage. The trademark virility, the deeply-rooted mystic factor and the sensual, vital energy of Elios wines are all here, being part of a structural order that is somewhat unique. Harvesting wild berries & blossoms in an environment of Mediterranean plants may give a tiny image of what is going on in the glass. Hints of orange rind, bright earth, sandalwood and more blue flowers complete the lasting impression. A fascinating, story-telling wine.
