September 1, 2023 - A lovely nose. Finessed and savoury, there is a feminin, graceful side to it which I would expect from the addition of viognier; it shows blackberries, black currants and a bit of bacon. Not your heavy OZ shiraz. Smooth on the palate, light on tannins and structure, early drinking style. The alcohol sticks out in the finish, though (14,5%, according to the label), which makes it less drinkable. That’s why I won’t rate it higher than 85 points. It was probably better 1-2 years ago, in the primary fruits phase. Drink up.

October 20, 2022 - Deep purple in the glass. Candied plum, ripe cherry, a bit of pepper and cola. Palate is smooth and there’s no astringency…but make no mistake this is a big, jammy, over ripe wine. And I think that’s OK and exactly what you are paying for. Long finish with low tannin. Overall, this is a good wine for this “genre”.

If you after a bit of finesse and a bit more complexity, I’d recommend seeking our Torbreck’s woodcutter Shiraz. But is Woodcutter worth 2x the price of this wine? I’m not sure.

September 30, 2022 - Pretty much the same, though I feel like I enjoyed it a bit more. Seemed a tad riper with a little bit more length.
