  April 15, 2023 - This 2019 has a fantastic complexity, every sip new nuances pop up and all with high precision. It’s a highly seductive wine. But I can‘t sing the same high praises the critics and others here do due to three reasons: a) the level of ripeness is at the upper end of what I like in Bordeaux (but no overripeness), b) the wine is richer and less airy than the best right banks in that category (think Canon) and c) the 14.5% abv is not perfectly masked (but will likely be for most, I‘m quite sensitive to alcohol). It will be interesting to see this develop over the next decades. 94 to 95pts today.
  
  TN: Medium expressive nose full of ripe dark red dark and blue berries, some herbal freshness and lots of minerality. The nose is a touch to ripe for my taste (but then again, this is a baby). On the palate this has layers and layers of dark red and bright red fruits, with time more dark fruits, ripe but not overripe, some purer fresher notes too, some slight baking spice/ sugary notes (on day 1 only), some fine herbs, minty notes, tobacco, wet rocks. With time some chocolate notes appear but well balanced by lots of herbal freshness and minerality. Luxurious satin-like tannin structure and texture, good freshness but still on the richer side but with good harmony and balance as well as a long and persistent finish.
  
  Decanting: Followed over 2 days. Good from the go, a bit less full and slightly less complex on day two but with a better balance. No extensive decanting needed.

  November 1, 2022 - Bordeaux tasting - with a few pirates: This was probably my wine of the night. It’s just so darn yummy and expressive, with a spine that is so focused and intense without overpowering the fruit or the focus. Black and beautiful fruit that is pure and powerful. The more O2 this thing ate, the stronger it became, like a purple Pac Man gobbling up power pellets. This was the only wine that was dumped in a decanter, and it was a total benefit to the way in which it rewarded over the course of the evening. Blackberries, crushed flowers, black minerality, fresh soil, and an electric purple plum thing that accentuated the persistence for days. A great finish that far outshined its peers.
  
  Of course, as I write these very words, I can already anticipate the comments, “You better drink now, cuz this vintage is gonna shut down soon enough and you’ll have to find something else to gush over for the next decade or more!” Aaaaaaand this is where I have a “problem” with some of ‘these wines.’ I absolutely hate loving a wine now and hating it in two years. I know some wines can go through sheepish phases, but then there’s those fuming mad wines that just throw the bouquet in your face, slam the front door on you, and then call the cops and have you arrested. So, along those lines, guzzle these now if you decided to shell out the dough (I guess when the winemaker passes, it rockets up prices to Van Gogh status), or hide them until the 2036 general election – Omri Ram for president!

  October 29, 2022 - Bordeaux tasting with some Napa outsiders (The Embrace of Silence): These are the kind of Bordeauxs I'm feeling! Completely took me by surprise. Didn't require much time for this to start flying (it was poured into a decanter though, so that probably sped things up a bit).
  
  Aromas of ripe red berries (in a sophisticated sense), a subtle sweetness that is not overdone like chocolate or possibly some cotton candy (in a good way), pleasant floral notes and soft bark.
  
  Flavors of dark fruits with a deep and pleasant bitterness, savory oak, tasty graphite and minerals, and bitter earth.
  
  This is that lady in the sexy red dress, showing just enough legs and cleavage but keeps it classy. I hope this is one of those Bordeaux wines that don't close up in a few months. Even if it will, I don't wanna hear it.

  October 29, 2022 - Wine: the Gathering Old World, Bordeaux (Château de Chris et Melissa): WOTN for me. I initially coravined a little and it was quite closed and was actually a tad worried that I just committed infanticide. I immediately had this decanting in the largest decanter at the house and let it sit for an hour, swirling it every so often to give it its best shot for the evening. With the initial pour after the air treatment, I was immediately enticed with an incredibly fragrant nose of fruits, forest floor, a bit of mushrooms and some floral notes. As the evening progressed, this wine got better and better, never giving up its perch on top of the hill that evening. Very long, lingering finish which is what really put this on top for me. The 10’ Margaux was definitely trying and was probably better on the nose to be honest, but the L’eglise Clinet on the palate was so wonderful and balanced and went on for days. I am not sure how much CF is in this thing, but I really liked how it compliments the Merlot in this bottling. Must buy, but unfortunately, this particular vintage is so jacked in pricing that it could turn off many people. Glad I have one more bottle.
