February 23, 2022 - This struck me reasonably different than most German Pinot Noirs that I’ve had. No dustiness and a fair amount of oscillating sweetness on the palate. Not bad, but not my thing and not what I was expecting.

December 13, 2021 - Pinot Noir from the Rheinhessen, from a small husband & wife producer (Julia Becker-Landgraf and Johannes Landgraf, hence J2)... small 20 acres of vineyard, indigenous yeast fermentation, aged in oak barrique (30% new) for 15 months. Unfined and unfiltered.
    ____________

    Color: Light-medium ruby.

Nose: Classic Pinot Noir nose of red/black cherry (cerise) liqueur. Amazing purity of fruit. Crystalline purity of fruit.

Palate: Medium-full body, nice flavor intensity. Sl tart finish. Good balance. Soft tannins. Kiss of new oak. This wine purrs. 13% alc.

Lovely. Filigree. In the style of a good village-level Chambolle-Musigny. Or perhaps a Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.

    Now: 90 solid.
2 to 5 more years: 90-91 (in a cool, proper cellar).

A few more years of age might develop the aromatics and give more complexity. Wonderful Spätburgunder from the Rheinhessen. Excellent value at $29. German Pinot Noir is coming!

January 27, 2021 - This is an exceptionally quaffable pinot noir. Popped and poured it comes on heavy-handed with oaky vanilla and very mild tannins. For people who like that, it hits off straight away. After 6 hours air, though, the oak seems more elegant, closer to a nice Burgundy. Fruit and sous bois are understated, this wine is mostly an oak delivery mechanism, but it works quite well. Feels like a new world PN but without a fruit emphasis. Acid is medium - it's noticeable but the wine isn't sour and is perfectly drinkable without food. Not a wine for aging, drink young, though I'm sure it'll be fine for a few years.
