Community Tasting Notes 4

August 8, 2023 - Knowing he’d enjoyed this wine a few years back, I shared my last bottle with Xavier94 for his birthday. I defer to his note though it appears I liked it more. 95+

August 7, 2023 - (Newman) smoked beet root with dusty autumn leaves, whispy orange fruit remnants with onion compote, leather and shoe polish notes and damp soil notes throughout the nose and palate. This is so tender, resolved and shows a great combination of savory vs. sweetness. Juicy and pliant in the mouth with fine tannin. An intriguinig note of peat and smoke character dominate today. I was looking back on my previous note and my note of "peat" holds true! A few hours into the tasting, after nursing this one, the fruit turns exotic with an almost orange liqueur/grand marnier tropical note- amazing stuff.

June 7, 2021 - (Domaine Alexis Lichine & Robert Newman) a brown almost tawny color out of the bottle; a very smoke/peaty nose of fine leather, antique wood, fernet branca-type minty herbal spice complexity with brown sugar dustings and dark chocolate. An orange top note begins to take centerstage, with hickory smoke, bacon/cured meats and a whiff of onion jam, all of which are whispy and properly integrated.as the wine sits in the glass and, in fact, the wine itself shows some oxidation immediately out of the bottle and then comes into focus with air time, even on DAY 2!!! Incredible stuff. Lots of style

June 7, 2021 - I was concerned how this would show at the end of a Chambolle tasting, following a dozen other wines. But it showed wonderfully, no worse than second fave among the four of us. Notes of peat, leather, onion compote, savory smoked meats and bacon fat; with that upper register of blood orange. CT tells me I have one more, but no rush.
