December 25, 2023 - Bottle was slightly oxidized, leaving a nose of hazelnuts but also some flowers. Palate shows some oxidation but nice acidity and some flowers as well. Not much fruit left, mostly warm spice and leathery notes. Medium-long finish. Drinkable but an off bottle unfortunately.

May 21, 2022 - il gran finale del Barolo di compleanno (Osteria Langhe, Chicago IL): The nose is wide open and expressive with balanced tones of mint, herbs, dark red cherries, raspberries, crushed rocks, licorice, spice tones, tobacco, currants, roses, and tart red fruits. The Full bodied feel is plush and balanced with crisp, high acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. The feel is poised and with excellent layering along with a silky and lengthy finish. This is really in its zone right now and I would've loved to have had this more on its own because more time was needed to be spent with it. There is plenty of life ahead of it and its bringing a lot of joy at the moment.

December 30, 2021 - Decanted For 1.5 hours fantastic nose palette and finish. Showing both power and elegance with dark meaty and earthy fruit. Smooth and silky. This is why Altare is my favorite Barolo maker that I’ve tasted so far.

Left 1/2 of the bottle to revisit Friday New Year’s Eve. Altare’s 1996 Barolo Brunate is my all time favorite Barolo. I added a tasting note for that wine on this site.

New Year’s Eve. This wine became more nuanced and fine but still very persistent. As this second evening went on and the wine received more air it became bigger and even more persistent.

I think my bottle of this was in very good condition so if you do have some of this in your cellar and it is in very good condition this wine has a long life ahead of it even though it is very beautiful today. A real pleasure to have wines from this winemaker in one’s cellar

November 20, 2021 - Double decanted 2 hours. Bricking. Dark berries, cured meats, earthy tones. Medium weighted, with integrated, tea-like tannins. Good length here too. Don't hold for much longer.
