February 3, 2022 - Decanted for over an hour,

On the nose: Huge, Crushed violet, Aged cheese, Yeast, Black cherries, Butter, Blackberries, Wet clay.

On the palate: Fresh Cranberry, Fresh spinach, Toasted sesame.

This wine seems to have some flaws, hope it’s a bottle variation.

Okay wine for the price, I wouldn’t buy again.

    October 31, 2021 - Botteotto, Montepulciano D'Abruzzo, DOG, 2019

100% Montepulciano, aged 4 months in oak barrels.

'Botteoto" means "Barrel number eight," named for the barrel containing the final blend. The "botti" or "oak barrel" in question has produced special wines and has been dedicated for this line.

This lovely Montepulciano is imported by M&M Importers of Brooklyn, NY. I just spoke with Dr. Ralph Madeb, the ebullient, endearing M&M CEO, who told me about the many new Italian wines from all regions of Italy which he will excitedly import for curious wine drinkers everywhere. To say the least, great new Italian wines are on the way! Stay tuned!

A little background on Abruzzo, the DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) region located in central Italy's mountainous region. Only about 20% of wine produced in Abruzzo receives the DOC designation. Montepulciano is the most celebrated grape of the region and is perfect for the region as it ripens late. Montepulciano is known for deeply colored, moderately acidic wines with mild to moderate tannins. It is also known for producing very food-friendly wines.

This wine is produced by renown Italian winery, Valle Reale, founded by the Pizzolo family in 1998 in the heart of Abbruzzo. The winery is nestled inside an Italian national park, oneof the few estate wineries in this pristine area. Winemaker: Emmanuel Merlo.

    And, of course, the wine:

In the glass, dark ruby red and clear.

Pronounced nose of dark red cherries, tobacco, oregano.

On the palate, medium body, medium acidity, medium, soft tannins. Very well-balanced. More ripe, red cherries, some blackberry and plum. Moderate, juicy finish. Very nice.

$23, 12.5%ABV, mevushal. Nice choice for restaurants and catered affairs!

March 24, 2021 - Valle Reale, Botteoto, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, 2019: Deep ruby towards garnet. On the nose, ripe cherries, dried strawberries, with a touch of cloves. Medium in body, with juicy ripe red cherries, strawberries and plums, hints of saline minerals, medium acidity, soft, integrated tannins with notes of cherry skins on the medium finish. Try this with some good pasta in tomato sauce or some light charcuterie. 13.5% Abv. Drink now-2022. 88
