January 9, 2022 - there may well have been something odd about this bottle because there was absolutely no acidity to the wine - very delicate sweetness which does fade quite quickly - unusual but delicious!

December 17, 2021 - Pop and pour. This mellowed into a delicious, harmonious wine. Honeyed sweetness is integrated with bracing acidity. Just yummy!

May 9, 2021 - Opulent and mature. Very sweet and developed, but the acids give a lovely sense of lift to the wine. Honey, green herbs, lime peel, wet slate, caramel and toffee apple. An outstanding wine that was superb with the Thai-inspired Jean Georges Vongerichten recipes served.

March 21, 2021 - Sunday hangout (socially distanced) (Chicago, IL): I don't quite remember the story behind this bottling, as it is mostly a GG now. Anyway, the wine itself shows the 2006 vintage a bit, with more generous fruit, but less of a racy thing going on. Good breadth and weight here, but suffering from a slight case of Prädikat creep (perhaps also because it was a tad warmer than it should have been when I tasted it).

November 9, 2019 - Very evolved: deep gold, very advanced (but not tired) aromas of creme anglais, lime peel, and slate. Very sweet entry, but with an etherial and bright acid finish that is impeccable, and very German. Stunning wine that is at a late stage of maturity

(Donnhoff Felsenturmchen Spatlese) This is a special bottling from a select piece of the Felsenberg vineyard by the tower as deftly illustrated on the label. This had all the Donnhoff love in spades. Very minerally nose with lovely citrus nuance, citrus oil and some classic Nahe red fruits. The palate was explosive for the first five minutes but quickly closed down and slowly opened up. The last sip was as good as the first. The wine had fantastic energy and perfect balance. The acidity was right where I like it which was very high. Concentrated, complex and extremely filigreed this was a very pretty wine. Not quite up to the level of the 2001 Schlossbockelhemier Felsenberg Spatlese "Auction" bottling which was from the same piece of land the 2006 is from but damn close.

(Donnhoff Felsenturmchen Spatlese) This was obviosuly young but fleshy, pure and rich with exceptional minerality and a finish flush with nectarine fruit. Another great new entry in the Donnhoff stable.
