April 22, 2023 - Just wailing on the nose, yes there are vegetable and leaf notes, but this is exuberantly, joyfully, perfectly ripe and fruity, a beautiful melange of sweet macerated fruits -- blueberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, cherry -- mingles with graphite, mocha, roasted poblano, spring flowers, violets... whispers of thyme and citrus provide gorgeous high notes. On the palate this is medium-bodied, tense and coiled, tart and juicy, the tannins firm up on the mid-palate, but all the flowers and fruit on the nose really come through in a stupendous inner perfume. The finish gushes juicy fruit as the tannins fade, and myriad subtle floral and herbal tones resonating alongside. This is not very tannic for Cab, but it does show classic Cab structure, with pronounced acid and tannin, though both elements are so neatly folded into the fruit, it is a most elegant and fresh, yet at the same time quite serious, rendition of this all too often hackneyed and manipulated grape. I don't know anyone else who makes Cab quite like this, it almost tastes a bit more Medoc than Napa, but the sweet fruit does say Cali, it is fruity in a way that Bordeaux is not, but maybe that's just because anyone making something so serious in the Medoc would be using a fair bit more new oak. Anyway, this is absolutely fabulous stuff, and surely worth following decades.

This is doing just fine on day 3, the floral aspect is more present than ever, and the fruit is less juicy, but this is still totally delicious.

January 25, 2023 - This is a throwback to decades long since past. Red fruit, tobacco, green bell pepper, taut, fresh, and energetic. Mmm, snappy, fresh, some grip on the finish, but so much vibrancy and energy. THIS is California Cabernet? 13.5%?? What planet is this from? This begs and deserves much more time in the cellar, but I wanted to get a sense of the style--and there is a clear balance and stylistic statement here.

NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells.

March 5, 2022 - Decanted 2 hours. Green pepper, fresh black cherry and herbaceous notes. Medium bodied with youth clear; waiting to concentrate further. Will take a couple years to hit peak as great fruity features with oak waiting to integrate further.

March 1, 2022 - Decanted for two hours prior to serving, four hours would have been better. The last few sips of my second glass were the best, as the fruit had deepened, and integrated the tannins to a more seamless whole. Not too surprising given the youth of the wine, but lesson to be heeded if I open another anytime soon. Midweight, sleek and a little bit racy, it’s a free safety of a wine that catches up to you and lays a pretty good whack on the palate. In the red fruit rather than black fruit spectrum, it’s the style of Cabernet that I prefer.

November 8, 2021 - Fruits from five vineyards. Focused with red plum, savory herbs, and a touch of smoke and spice. Nice acidity with fine tannins. 13 percent alcohol.
