September 17, 2022 - The color is an almost opaque cherry red, reminiscent of the appearance of a heavily extracted Pinot Noir. The nose imparts surprisingly hesitant red fruit aromas and other than a fleeting evocation of a similar blend (This well made wine is 52% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon) of the Bordeaux right bank 1990 Chateau Pavie, 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, I had bought on futures (some of us remember getting 1990 Chateau Latour for $55.00 on futures) when persons such as myself could actually afford a Grand Cru St. Emilion, giving off the bouquet of a hint of dry leather, graphite and old cigar box.
Apologies for the long sentence as I severely digress.
The mouthfeel, without food, is medium light, silky and possesses a bright, pretty and appropriate acidity, imparting a slight austerity, with less extraction of fruit and complexity than I would expect, perhaps in part because of lower sugar levels and higher acid levels, in spite of an above average heat accumulation in the growing region for 2017.
The flavors, although dissipating through the mid palate, extend to sweet memories of the two larger grapes on the finish. With cheese, and I predict richer food in general, the wine does flesh out to an above acceptable level, and those Bordeaux characteristics also show more readily.
If I had tasted this wine in a blind tasting, I might well have leaned toward an Italian blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, with a smattering of Petite Verdot and Mourvèdre.
    Will this evolve???
    Postscript: Delicious!
    Only 97 cases were produced.
