April 1, 2023 - Very dry, crisp and focused, great wine.

November 28, 2022 - Served while preparing the starter, so this was possibly not given the attention or time to open up that it deserved. My first Doyard.

Green apples, green pear, almonds, a certain saline streak of oysters and seaspray that reminded me of something I once read: Doyard straddles the line between the wildness of the biodynamic growers and the blended classicism of the grande marques. It does, and it does it very well.

Quite young and still tense. 92 points now, but considerable upside.

March 5, 2022 - Really enjoyable. Vibrant, nice acidity. Citrus, pear & apple flavors. A little buttery as well - a lot of flavors each sip…

December 31, 2021 - Very complex apple aroma with some citrus, yeast and almond notes too. Apple cider, apple pie, grapefruit, and citrus flavors with tons of minerality. Well balanced with electric acidity and a nice long finish. Good presence and texture.

I would classify this as electric, minerally, toasty Chardonnay. I like this wine but it’s kind of expensive. Drink or hold.

October 29, 2021 - Skillfully balanced and easily accessible, the front end creaminess and texture fool you into thinking this is going to be all dough and no go, but the speed kicks in midway through its smooth operator expansion of yellow citrus, white melon, yellow pear, almond flesh, and wet travertine notes. There is just enough rolling tension to carry the fruit to the tail, where the lingering acidity picks up even more momentum and lingers at the back of the jaw, making for a delayed lift that preserves intensity and perpetuates the requisite traction on the finish.

This Doyard is not a shrill or especially nervy beast, as I suspect the extended 7 years of cellar time has buffed-out any would-be hard edges and made for textural excellence here. Rather, this is a polished and effortless satin glide that also dodges the bready Seth Rogan dad bod physique and instead offers a keen interplay of richness and form. Drinks great now (ideally for my personal desire to exploit its freshness and verve), but also stands to age gracefully over the coming years. 94-95 points.

100% Chardonnay. 84 months on lees. 2g/L dosage.
