June 3, 2023 - Rich feel, butter and tropical fruit flavors.

March 24, 2023 - A deep golden colour. The nose developed in the glass and showed apple, tropical notes and a little citrus. The palate was not as dry as expected. It was rich and full-bodied with some sweet character from the tropical fruits including pineapple. With food, the oak was soft and the palate was quite buttery. On its own, later, it retained the fruit but the acidity was muted and the long end taste was too woody for me. There was some salinity on the lips and I got hints of the lemon curd that I detected in examples of 2018 Morning Fog Chardonnay.
It didn’t impress as much as the early Wente Chardonnays I tasted many years ago, especially at the current UK price.
However, we tasted a sample next day. It still showed apple (pie) but the tropical fruit flavours had diminished. It seemed more subtle and elegant - less Californian and slightly more ‘European’. That makes me think it is too young, yet. I will keep my remaining bottles for a year or five. 88 on first day / 90 next day - so 89 at this stage.

Note. We tasted another bottle as part of a Chardonnay comparison tasting a couple of months later and, once again, found it better the day after opening (after a night in the fridge and given time to rise above fridge temperature). The fruit was increasingly apple as it opened and warmed.
