November 13, 2013 - You never know what Chianti will show up. This was certainly complex enough to be interesting with earth and fruit in abundance but was a little harsh with a so-so finish.

April 5, 2009 - Basic bottle of chianti, what you'd expect in this price range ($10).

January 9, 2009 - I've had about 8 or 9 of these and they have all been good wines for the just under 10 bucks that I paid. There are very few wines that I care to drink at this price point. Not very complex, but a very drinkable weeknight Chianti. A nice food wine.

May 4, 2008 - I've been lucky lately. Picked this up as a school-night wine ($10), and it vastly overperformed. Farnetella is run by Fèlsina, from vines at pretty high altitude, according to Polaner, their distributer, at around 500 meters, and it shows. Medium dark ruby, it has the classic aromas of black cherries, leather, olive, and spice, with a hint of clean, wet earth. The palate follows the nose with impressive intensity without much weight. Tannins are there but do not obscure. Really, a very nice wine. Okay, we're not talking tons of complexity, but this held beautifully until day two; no real development, but also absolutely no signs of oxidation.

March 15, 2008 - Nose: big time barnyard with a touch of cherry.

Palate: Medium bodied with cutting acidity. Young unripened plums transition into a hard tannic finish of of bitter black walnut shells.
