March 12, 2023 - The nose was surprisingly closed, though the palate is layered with very good density of warm ripe Barossa fruit amid overtones of a rich Christmas pudding plums and red fruits liquorice and herbal elements. Very well-integrated and balanced, laced with very fine subdued bubbles and understated acidity. It was simply delicious and opened up over time problem was the bottle was empty by then

January 4, 2023 - The Rockford files continue to provide an unsolved mystery for me. Make no mistake, they make excellent wine and better palates than mine rate their wine more than I do - trust them, not me. What is missing for me is the zap or crackle that others get. I have never really had a Rockford wine that I thought was not at least very well made, but I have rarely had one that really got the juices flowing. One recent one that did was the 2017 Basket Press Shiraz and that was a wine that copped fairly poor reviews by Rockford standards.

So, to the wine. The style is a an unusual one, but I love Sparkling Burgundy. For me it is about hedonism. The Rockford tends to a more Calvinist version, as perhaps befits the Lutheran persuasion of many of the settlers of the Barossa.

The colour speaks of power to come and also of a wine that is still fresh and with years ahead. The nose and palate are dark, earthy and leathery, with some slightly muted blackberry and spice. Great intensity and length. I prefer the Joseph, which still gives a savory accent but with more rococo styling. Every now and then the Papists get it right. Given they (the Papists) must be the oldest crime organisation in the world, perhaps we should give them more credit. Am I just their latest dupe?

If you love the Rockford style, I can't argue, but I just want a bit more pomp and ceremony and plump nuns, sans habets, in the sacristy. Tithe up please!

November 22, 2022 - My very favourite wine, year in and year out. Love to drink it on special occasions.
This disgorgement is not as sweet as some, and all the better for it. All the usual characteristics are there, and it's delicious as always.
The only problems are a) getting it, and b) keeping it!

November 13, 2022 - Delicious. Foamed across the tongue and full of flavour. Look forward to drinking many more of these.
The wine looks crimson colored. There is no sediment in the bottle. The body is light/medium and has a silky texture. The wine finishes medium/long with medium acidity.
