July 28, 2021 - A bottle that I drank 2 weeks ago showed poorly so thought I would open the last bottle in the set of 3 and showed far better although still tiring.
Mid- mahogany to tawny rim. Tertiary based undergrowth, shoe polish, hit but less fly spray, baked fruit, preserved fruits, umami fruit feels almost singed (cooked fruit on a open fire with that smoky element) Granular almost coarse tannins. Still some oak too!
The palate has a sweet almost jam like fruit, preserved (rumtopf) fruits of plum, squashed strawberry and forest fruits with a distinct spicy element. underlying savoury notes with a generous alcohol, leathery texture and granular, firm but as austere as previous tannins. Showing far better than previous bottle. As the wine opened in decanter some overripe banana appeared, dried spices, baked earth, coffee grinds, dried blackberry and prune. The acid is just about there but has a unusual balsamic elements that veers to balsamic glaze on a strawberry compote alongside. A slight richness does help alleviate the firmness of the tannin and quite high cayenne-type spice level.

July 16, 2021 - Mid garnet to mahogany edge. Penetrating fly spray aroma alongside leather polish and lots of spices - paprika, cayenne. Not hugely enjoyable to be fair. The palate starts off quite toasty with again lots of hot spices, coffee grinds, furniture polish and all things savoury. hint of liquorice. The wine has a sour cherry bitter note with chewy tannins, feels rather skinny and not that accommodating. Slightly dried out fruit With protruding spices, a strange scented soap later on. It all feels loud and disconnected like cymbals being bashed. As wine opened there was a little bit of sweet jammy fruit but this moth ball fly spray just never seemed to disappear. Peaked some time ago - will try my last bottle in a weeks times. Saw I tried 3 years back! should have drunk then.

June 13, 2021 - Loved this. Drinking perfectly. Seems to be at peak. Strong nose, lots of cassis, oak, and earth. Tart up front, but smoothes out and ends with a with a huge finish. Lots of red fruit, some black fruit, and well balanced oak. Drink over next 2-4 years.
