Community Tasting Notes 3

August 31, 2023 - I can't improve on MJWStickings' note, so I'll just endorse that as summing up this impressive wine very well. It's still quite young and benefits from a good airing, after which the sappiness diminishes and a more opulent wine, with a core of graphite, emerges.

I only add that although some Beaujolais producers these days are getting distinctly Burgundian ideas into their heads about pricing, this remains good value, about €12 in Belgium

January 11, 2022 - This is quite the earthy, dense, relatively full-bodied Gamay, as one expects from Juliénas, a cru in the north of Beaujolais. With an almost creamy texture (contrasting with the earthiness), it comes across initially like a blend of Pinot Noir and Sangiovese, with notes of cherry, raspberry, beetroot, black and brown spice, and, particularly on the palate, ferrous minerality. The fruit, while in the darker side, is quite fresh and lively, and the acidity is also a nice foil to that general earthy character. Still quite tannic, though, firm on the palate and notably dry on the finish, it's still probably about 2-3 years away from its peak, even if it's drinking well now with food, benefiting from significant aeration. A light and easy Beaujolais this is not, but that's what makes it all the more appealing.

October 8, 2021 - Pale to medium Ruby with some purple tinge. Filtered
Aromatics medium +. Dark red fruit. Mainly black cherry with some dry plum. Dust.
Pallet has a medium body. Acid medium +. Tannins medium +. Fine grained on teeth and gums. Alcohol medium. Dry red cherries. Chalky minerality. Later, I do get that crunchy feel with the fruit I've come to expect from beaujolais.
Finish has a medium length. Balance towards the tannins.
Probably needs a couple more years to let everything integrate. I do have another bottle. Will review in the future.
