Community Tasting Notes 4

December 23, 2022 - Not my thing - inky, concentrated, fruit forward and rich. With lots of air it calmed down a bit, revealing some interesting meaty notes but you're mainly getting a blue and purple fruit bomb. It's not like I drink any Lagrein, but it feels like there's not much character here

October 13, 2022 - Black fruit, violets and ink. Very round and suave. Very tasty and generous too.
But, for me, this is slightly short on acidity and mineral complexity.

  • Guillaume-en-égypte Does not like this wine:

March 1, 2022 - I agree with the other reviewer's description - 'softer style of Syrah meets Primitivo' - However, that description doesn't sound appealing and this wine is not doing anything for me. It feels too dense and sweet - borderline jammy with a slightly tarry edge (I would have guessed more than the 13.5% abv). The only other Lagrein I've tried is the Muri-Gries 2018 and wasn't sure about that either (despite JG's enthusiasm).... Also reminds me a bit of 2018 Cru Beaujolais but with more extraction...Hmmm - I need to try different vintages and / or these with more bottle age, so won't score, but I can't say I liked this - at all - even on the second day (and had no desire to finish the bottle)

September 19, 2021 - Black fruit, blueberry, mild pepper. Reminds me of a softer style of Syrah meets primitivo. Never had this grape before; this particular one has well balanced acidity and tannins, not extremely bold but round and somewhat mellow. Fun discovery, would be happy to drink more.
