January 27, 2024 - Restrained, dignified posture currently. Blackberries, orange peel, touch of rhubarb. Echoes of pepper, but pretty subtle. Dusty tannins.

February 14, 2022 - Great wine from a great vineyard. Full dark fruit flavors with black pepper notes with great complexity and a long, clean finish

December 30, 2021 - Pnp......nose of orange rind, dark fruit, spice and a little chalky astringency. Much more 'structure' to this '18 than most years. This has many years ahead of it. 91 pts the first hour.

2nd hour........much richer fruit on the nose, still a hint of orange rind but also a whiff of alc and a hint of Bazooka bubble gum as the nose is transitioning. The palate is becoming more complex, the weight in the mouth seems heavier. More body to this one. This zin is so well structured, it seems to be drinking more like a cab? 92 pts now.

Fast forward to hour 5+....I know, I know....we got sidetracked binging the Old Dexter and forgot to check in on hours 3 and 4. At hour 5 there's a slight brambly, slight confectionery nose. The palate has integrated quite a bit and doesn't seem as overly structured as it did in the first 2 hours. Strong red fruited zin fruit, white pepper and barrel spice continues throughout, the spicy/peppery ending goes on for about 20-30 seconds after you swallow. The wine is more refined at this stage, maybe a 93, so averaging the score out to a 92 overall, but I think I liked hour 2's taste profile the best tonight. Sorry I missed trying hours 3 and 4, too. Maybe they would have ended up the best?

Addendum: one big glass left in the bottle, cork back in and sat in the fridge overnight so this qualifies as night #2 now. Easily 2 points better tonight, now a 94. The best, deepest, darkest fruit yet. Silky, chalky minerality. It has all come together. Fruit, spice, tannins, acidity, it is the total package with great 'structure'. Note to self....'decant these '18 zins like they're '18 cabs!'

August 6, 2021 - Who can go against a Robert Parker 92! But it lives up to its rating. A great Zinfandel. Nice spice notes. Good depth and complexity. Hemingway’s a favorite!

April 3, 2021 - Oak, tobacco, earthy, very nicely blended, smooth and highly drinkable. Good now, but will undoubtedly age well.
