January 30, 2021 - Beautiful nose with dark fruit, cedar, wisps of smoke and oak, sweet tannins, smooth mouthfeel, long finish. Delightful.

January 15, 2021 - The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like cherry, forest floor, light toast and rose. It tastes like black currant (cassis) and cherry. The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

December 28, 2020 - Stood up for 24 hours, then decanted 90 minutes. Some sediment, but not overwhelming. Not too bricky with maybe the slightest touch of brown on the rim. This continues to present like an old-style Bordeaux. Mature cedar, leather, herbs and earthy cassis on the nose. On the medium bodied palate this seems to have lost most of its richness, with a dryer finish of cassis dry earth and spices. While still elegant I believe this is just past peak and on the way down. Perhaps its bottle variation, or too long a decant - but recommend you drink up soon.

December 21, 2020 - Coravin fun - Leoville Barton and new arrivals (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Aromas of blackcurrant, earth, leather, sweet spice, cedar, polished oak, plums, toast. In the mouth the acid/tannin/flavour balance is near perfect. All carry long. Fleshy, savoury, black fruited, grainy, grippy tannins, lovely. Complete.

December 4, 2020 - This wine shows a deep crimson colour with red edging and an open nose blackcurrant, dark raspberries, dusty cedar and touches of spice and dark chocolate. The palate has real depth of fresh and pure fruit with a nice line of berry pastilles leading into a very soft and persistent finish with a fine and gentle tannic grip. There is a lovely savoury touch balancing the rich fruit in the way of a classic mature claret.

Rockss and Fruit

(Leoville Barton) Had this wine the other night. Nothing wrong with it. Good chunky Cabernet fruit, some earthy minerality, slightly soupy and stewed as it warmed up. Pretty balanced. Just an ok wine. Boring. The C-Span of wine. Could be the lameness of 1995 Bordeaux as I have never had one that has done anything for me at all.
