Community Tasting Notes 5

March 6, 2024 - This was my favorite Gargantua yet.
Love Bergstrom Pinots and that being said, imho, there are better syrahs out there for 50 bones.
The floral power here is terrific - and it is very "elegant".
Hints of plum and raspberry on the nose, but the palate is primarily floral, with bramble, green herbs and tomato leaf.

January 19, 2022 - dark purple in color. tasted at winery, decanted for some time, savory, black pepper, black fruit, touch of acid, light tannins, did not get the overly sweet confectioned jammy profile from previous tasting notes.

may need more time in bottle/long decants for fruit to resolve

November 24, 2021 - Far too sweet, too little tannin, very juice like. Strawberry jam like taste. Very little finish. I love Bergstrom Pinot Noir but this is my first taste of one of their Syrahs and at this point I don’t know that I would be inclined to try more of them.

It isn’t flawed or defective in my opinion, just not my style of wine.

Edit - 2nd night it is slightly better. Still almost a bland Syrah. Sweetness has faded and some structure seemed to appear. Better buy still not a bottle I would buy again. Will adjust rating from 75 to around 80-81. Not bad, but definitely not great. Very middling - wine I’d expect at open bar at a reception or company party.

January 31, 2021 - Found this underwhelming. Much lighter on the palate than expected. Strawberry fruit up front but very watery thin on back end. Perhaps it was the bottle, or maybe opened too soon but not a great showing.
