April 7, 2019 - Beautiful bright color, nice legs, smells instantly of a Fred Zin. Really well-balanced mouthfeel; fruit, acid, structure. Lots of red fruit, and a spice I can't name - Cardamom? cloves? Not sure, but definitely a nice addition to the fruits. A really nicely aged Scherrer Zin.

September 18, 2015 - Consumed this 1+ years ago from a half-bottle, and very ho-hum. As in not interesting, very much in sync with being a somewhat off year in California. I left my remaining two half bottles to rest in the cellar, because I have nothing to lose. So, today, from a half bottle. Wow! That nose is complex yet joyful red fruit at the same time. Just a lovely wonderful balanced red fruit nose. The palate is in that vein as well, but can't measure up to the nose. I've had the 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 Scherrer Zinfandel (most vintages from both half bottle and full bottle), and about half those vintages of the Shale Terrace. This zinfandel, (for the record from a half bottle) is my best experience so far of any aged zinfandel I’ve had in my life, being someone who prefers balance over hedonism. I drank a half bottle of this in april 2014 giving it a very average 88 points, nothing wrong with it, nothing good about it. As I said, I've had older versions that were even worse than this 2006 half bottle I drank in April. I don't know what to say. Maybe you have to catch these old Zinfandel in the right moment.

April 21, 2015 - Another excellent bottle, elegant for a zin.

January 10, 2015 - Beautiful nose of dark fruit and floral, on the palate some black cherry dark fruit but from the mid palate through the finish the streak of acidity brought out crunchy, brambly, spicy red fruit. Raspberry cherry. Showed really well tonight, lively and young.
