Community Tasting Notes 3

November 23, 2022 - I thought when I grabbed this off the shelf I had tried it before, but I didn't realise it was the identical vintage nor did I remember my fairly scathing comments. To be fair, this time it was 30% off, and frankly whether by a years further ageing or pure bottle variation this example is less objectionable. The brett/poo aroma remains clear, but there is slightly more freshness this time, with some sweet red fruit on the nose as well as the palate. I can only lament the brilliant wine these people could clearly produce if they weren't obsessed with natural wine and/or would clean their equipment properly. 86-87pts

May 29, 2022 - Très bon Bourgueil. Frais et sur le fruit.

January 5, 2021 - A proudly “Bio” wine, this fact shows up immediately on the nose, which has an unmistakable overtone of chicken poop (I would personally guess Brett, but at some point the cause is secondary to the impact). There are some more classic Cab Franc red berry characteristics as well. The palate comes across much cleaner, especially with air, showing fleshy red fruits and just a hint of confection. I actually don’t mind a bit of “barnyard-y” complexity but it sits so abruptly next to otherwise gently fragrant, relatively soft bodied Cab Franc characteristics that I can only view it as a winemaking fault.
