    February 1, 2021 - Chateau Beausejour Puisseguin-St. Emilion Cuvée Petit Beausejour (2019):

    ABV: 14%
    Color: ruby-purple
    Body: medium, medium alcohol
Nose: first: sour unripe cherries, dried rose petals, wood with a slight musk. After decanting, got notes of chocolate covered cherries with a slight floral, and suppressed wood/musk.

First experience with a St. Emilion AOC, and was very surprised and not surprised of the quality of the wine. The area is known for great production, so I don’t know why I had my reservations (Clos Floridene made me hesitant on red Boudreaux wines). On first pour, there was a hint of a sour and soapy smell, and thought, great the wine is corked. But after a few minutes in the glass, it began to open up with chocolate notes.

The wine is velvety and smooth, but not heavily bodied/filling. It was more acidic than tannic, but not off balance.

Food pairing: Hooter’s lemon pepper and garlic habanero with curly fries and fried pickles. Definitely does not pair well with one another.
