Community Tasting Notes 2

January 17, 2023 - Way too young, this is showing a bit awkwardly, and will surely be more interesting when the ripeness of the vintage has integrated with the deep umami and earthy flavors here. It will likely take 10 to 15 years for that to happen, maybe longer.

Aromas of strawberry and blackberry preserves, juicy dark cherry, dark chocolate, grilled steak, peony, a little black pepper and cedar too. Full and structured, great acidity which is not exactly what I expected given its many cooked fruit flavors, fine tannins grip long, but there's more than enough fruit to gush through the grip, plus plenty of interesting spicy, herbal and soil tones. This is just not ready, but the balance and intensity are there. This will probably become something quite meaty, and very representative of what one expects from Gevrey (not that all Gevrey is, or need be, structured, earthy and meaty).

Still a little clunky and awkward on day two, but this has so much substance and character, and the finish is extraordinary, lingering on myriad exotic spices, charred meat, and most of all luscious ripe fruit. Definitely needs 5+ years though, probably more like 10 to 15. When this beast is tamed, it should be a spicy and meaty delight.

I really want to know about the oak regimen on this wine, as it is so spicy (black pepper, mace, clove, cedar...), but in a way that I don't readily associate with new oak, but then it is just so spicy, so I wonder about new oak. In any case, I like its spiciness.

March 24, 2022 - Dégustation des 2020 au Domaine Louis Boillot (Au domaine): Très juteux et frais, délicieux. Un vin savoureux et charnu, de belle longueur. Impeccable. 91-92 pts
