January 27, 2024 - A real treat to get to try this rare wine in the U.S. Grateful for the gift! The super extracted style is not my personal favorite, and that was emphasized by the Shiraz drank alongside it, a 1992 Hill of Grace. The Sami-Odi had intense, ripe blueberry, balanced alcoholic heat, and violets. In my early days of wine drinking in the 1990s, this would have rocked my world, and those who prefer extraction and intensity might rate this 95+++.

January 4, 2024 - Deep magenta. Per usual, extremely aromatic. Blueberries, mulberry, wet stone, green tobacco, licorice. The palate needs a lot of time and air. Hours or even days. Heavy licorice and elderberry gaining weight and creaminess with time. Something is out of whack at the moment though. May be the alcohol here. Could sit and sniff this for days but it's not the usual joy to drink compared to my past experiences with Sami-Odi. One to sit on in the cellar for many years to come. Right now this is a 91-92 pt wine simply on aromas. Could it be 96+, time will tell.

January 30, 2023 - While I will agree this is lower acid and less structured than other years I will also say it’s delicious and approachable. Ripe blackberry, smoke, bacon fat, savory earth, violets and mineral. Perfect balance and loads of complexity even if it won’t be the longest living wine. Drink now or hold a few years.

September 8, 2022 - This wine was opened for 30 minutes prior to pouring, this clear and deep purple wine had a nose and flavours of dark berries, some bacon and a bit of white pepper. The spice level was quite low and the tannins and acidity were both at a medium level.

August 18, 2022 - This wine was drank at home with the Coravin. The wine was clear and quite deep purple in colour. The nose was not overly strong but there was some cherry bouquet. In the glass were flavours of dark cherries and a lot of dark chocolate. The spice level was surprisingly very light. The acidity was also quite light while the tannins were at a mid level.
